Make a Payment
Six ways to pay, no fee on any of them
Pay online, in the app, on autopay, by phone, by mail, or at any of our 42 branches. Here is exactly when each method posts to your loan.
Every way to pay your Summit loan
Summit charges nothing to accept a payment through any channel, including the ones other lenders bill for.
Online banking
Sign in and pay from a Summit account or an external bank account. Transfers between Summit accounts post immediately, any day of the week.
The Summit app
Pay in three taps, schedule a future date, or add an extra principal payment. Face and fingerprint sign-in means no password to remember.
Autopay
Set it once and it runs on the due date every month. Members with autopay from a Summit checking account receive a 0.25% rate discount on most loan types.
By phone
Call 800-555-0148 and pay through the automated system at any hour, or ask for a representative during business hours. There is no phone payment fee.
By mail
Send a check with your loan number written on the memo line to Summit Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 4820, Rochester, NY 14604.
In a branch
Pay with cash, check, or a transfer at a teller window in any of our 42 branches. Payments taken before closing post the same business day.
When each method posts
Posting time is what determines whether a payment counts as on time, so it is worth knowing before a due date gets close.

Autopay
The payment you never have to remember
Autopay is the single most reliable way to protect your payment history, which is the largest input to your credit score. Set it up once in online banking, pick the account it draws from, and it runs on the due date until the loan is paid off.
Common questions
Do you charge a fee for any payment method?
No. Online, app, autopay, phone, mail, and branch payments are all free. If another institution's bill pay service charges you, that fee comes from them, not from Summit.
Is there a grace period?
Consumer loans carry a ten-day grace period. A late fee of $25 or 5% of the payment, whichever is less, applies after that, and we do not report a payment as late to the bureaus until it is 30 days past due.
How do I make an extra principal payment?
Choose "principal only" when paying online or in the app, or write "principal only" on a mailed check. Otherwise the extra amount is applied to your next scheduled payment instead of the balance.
Can I change my due date?
Once per loan, after your first three payments. Members usually move it to line up with a payday. Call or send a secure message and it takes effect the following cycle.
What happens if a payment is returned?
We reattempt once after five business days and notify you by email. A returned item fee of $25 applies, and the payment is not considered made until it clears.
Can I pay a Summit loan from another bank?
Yes. Link an external checking or savings account in online banking. The first transfer takes two to three business days to verify; after that, external payments post the next business day.
I am going to miss a payment. What should I do?
Call us before the due date rather than after. We have hardship options including short deferrals and modified schedules, and they are far easier to arrange before an account goes delinquent.
Put it on autopay and stop thinking about it
Never miss a due date, earn a 0.25% rate discount, and add extra to principal automatically if you want to finish early.
