Fees
A short list, published in full
Summit charges nineteen fees in total, and most members never pay any of them. Here is every one, what it costs, and exactly when it applies.
What we do not charge for
Fee income is not how a member-owned credit union stays solvent. These are permanently free, not free for the first year and not waived with a qualifying balance.
No overdraft or NSF fees
We eliminated both in 2022. A transaction that would overdraw your account is either covered by your linked savings at no charge or simply declined.
No statement or bill pay charges
Electronic and paper statements, online bill pay, external transfers, and mobile check deposit are all included with membership.
No foreign transaction fees
Summit debit and credit cards charge nothing extra abroad. You get the network exchange rate with no 3% markup added on top.
Account and everyday service fees
Fees are debited from the account they relate to on the day the service is performed.
Cards, ATMs, and transfers
Out-of-network ATM owners may add their own surcharge. Summit rebates up to $20 of those surcharges each month on Rewards Checking.
Loan and card fees
No Summit card carries an annual fee, a balance transfer fee, a cash advance fee, or a penalty APR.
Rates current as of July 2026 and subject to change. Membership eligibility required. This is a demonstration website; rates, products, and figures shown are illustrative only.
Common questions
Is this really the complete list?
It is. Federal regulation requires us to disclose every fee, and we would rather publish them on one readable page than bury them in a PDF appendix.
How can you operate with no overdraft fees?
Overdraft revenue funds shareholder returns at institutions that have shareholders. Summit does not, so we cover small shortfalls from linked savings or decline the transaction instead.
Will you tell me before charging a fee?
Yes. Any optional service that carries a charge, such as a rush card or a same-day transfer, states the amount before you confirm it.
Can a fee be reversed?
Call 1-800-555-0148 or send a secure message. Member advisors can waive most service fees once per calendar year without approval from anyone above them.
How much notice do I get if a fee changes?
At least 30 days in writing, by mail or electronic statement, before any new or increased fee takes effect on your account.
Do youth and senior accounts pay the same fees?
Members under 18 and members 60 and over are exempt from the dormant account fee and pay nothing for cashier's checks.
